Peruvian boy of poor background is chosen for a musical tour in France

11 year old, Giovanny Arango is one of the Peruvian children who will travel in June to France. They will represent our country in a musical tour as part of the project “Pequeños Cantores de los Andes”. This is an initiative of Andean Development  Corporation (CAF) with Schola Cantorum of Venezuela.

Giovanny is part of Seeds of Hope a choir founded four years now in Villa Libertad, a shanty town in Santiago de Surco, in the city of Lima. This choir is formed by 50 kids, 6 to 12 years old, of this neighborhood, all of them of a poor background. Seeds of Hope took part in the selection of 40 children from different Latin American countries that will be traveling from June 22 to July 3 to Caracas, Venezuela to prepare the repertory for the Polyfollia Festival in Normandy (France) and in other concerts in different French cities. The tour will end in Paris in middle July.
With Giovanny are also traveling Lorena Minaya, Natalia Hablutzel y Verónica Marcelo.
They are part of other local choirs.
Giovanny has a vast experience of presentations with the Seeds of Hope choir. This choir’s main goal is to give these children a possibility to grow as human beings through culture. The children find here musical education and a basic choral formation, with a space for workshops in values. Families have also received accompaniment.  Giovanny’s mother, Milagros Vargas, says that Seeds of Hope choir has been “a space that has helped me, as a mother, to educate my son”. She also thinks that this opportunity for Giovanny to travel to France is “a dream made true”.

With Seeds of Hope, Giovanni has participated for two years in Andean Voices on Choir (VAC), a project of CAF. This project allowed expert music teachers to travel around many Latin American countries to share their knowledge as choral directors. In Peru, VAC is developed by Master Wilfredo Tarazona Padilla, director of the Infant and Youth Symphonic Orchestras.
